This FAQ covers the essentials for booking with Out of the Blue Experiences, including how our tours work for train travellers
(meeting you at any Blue Mountains train station and helping you make the most of your time without hiring a car).
You’ll find answers about private Blue Mountains tours (flexible timing, custom itineraries, minimal-walking options, Scenic World planning) and our Megalong Valley weekend wine tasting tour (a small-group option that’s great value for solo travellers and couples).

Frequently asked questions
Yes & No — we offer both private tours and small-group wine tasting tours.Yes - Private tours are tailored just for your group, with flexible timing and stops. These can run in our SUV (up to 4 guests) or our wheelchair-accessible minivan (up to 8 guests including 1 wheelchair user).
No - Our Megalong Valley wine tasting tours (Saturday/Sunday) may run as a small group. If you’re booking as 1 person or a couple, you can still request a spot — we confirm the tour once minimum numbers are met.If you’d prefer a private wine day, ask us — we can tailor it.
Because this is a small-group weekend tour, it runs once we reach minimum numbers (2 guests). When you submit a booking, it’s treated as a request to book — we’ll confirm the tour 48 hours in advance once minimum numbers are met, and only then take payment. If minimum numbers aren’t met, we’ll try to offer an alternative date or other options.
Your ticket includes return transport from Katoomba/Medlow Bath/Blackheath plus tastings at Dryridge Estate and Megalong Creek Estate. The Dryridge tasting ($18pp) is included, and at Megalong Creek the tasting plus a grazing box ($25 for 2 people) is included. Free bag storage from 9:00am is available at Blue Mountains Bag Storage (7 Katoomba St, 1 minute from Katoomba Station).
Pick-up is from Katoomba Train Station (Goldsmith Place, north side) with additional pick-ups at the Hydro Majestic (outside of reception) and Blackheath Station (Kiss & Ride, highway side). You’ll return in the afternoon (typically 3:15–3:30pm). If you need a different pick-up or drop-off point, contact us and we’ll let you know what’s possible.
Free bag storage is available from 9:00am at Blue Mountains Bag Storage (7 Katoomba St, Katoomba). The tour departs 10:30am from Katoomba Station (Goldsmith Place, north side) and returns to Katoomba in the afternoon, usually around 3:15–3:30pm.
Pricing is $150 per person on Saturdays and $165 per person on Sundays. Wine tastings at Dryridge Estate and Megalong Creek Estate are included as part of the tour.
Yes — solo guests are welcome. Because it’s a small-group tour, it runs with a minimum of 2 guests. When you request to book, we’ll confirm the tour 48 hours in advance once minimum numbers are met.
Tours run with a minimum of 2 guests and a maximum of 8 guests. Group size stays small so the day feels relaxed, with easy pick-ups and plenty of time to enjoy the valley.
Yes — we can accommodate one wheelchair passenger on this tour using our wheelchair-accessible minivan with an automatic lift. Both cellar doors are wheelchair accessible with some considerations, so please contact us in advance to discuss your specific needs and we’ll confirm the best plan.
Yes — we can tailor a private Bathurst wine tasting day for tourists or locals staying in the Blue Mountains. A comfortable plan is three stops (for example Winburndale, Renzaglia and Vale Creek) with around 1 hour at each venue, plus travel time. From Katoomba, allow roughly 2 hours each way, so most days run approximately 9:00am–5:00/5:30pm. Send us your date and group size and we’ll confirm a realistic schedule based on opening hours and bookings.
Availability depends on the day and existing bookings. Send us your date, group size, and preferred start/finish times, and we’ll confirm quickly. Private tours are limited because we run a small operation and dates can fill up in peak periods.
Private tours are priced from $120 per hour (including GST) for up to 4 guests. Longer tours may be discounted depending on the plan. Tell us your timing and what you’d like to do, and we’ll recommend a realistic itinerary and quote.
Yes — we can arrange airport pick-ups and drop-offs as part of a private transfer or private tour (subject to availability). Send us your flight details, number of passengers, luggage, if our wheelchair lift is required, and your pick-up/drop-off address, and we’ll confirm timing and provide a quote.
All prices on our website, quotes, invoicing, are in Australian dollars.GST is Australia’s Goods and Services Tax (10%). Our private tour hourly rate is quoted including GST, so there are no surprises added on top.
"Request to book" a tour via the "BOOK NOW", then we will contact you to confirm the agreed itinerary, timing and pick-up details. Once we are agreed, we’ll send an invoice and your private tour is confirmed once the deposit is received.
Yes — we can do private tour station pick-ups and drop-offs, and we can often also drop off at other Blue Mountains locations if it suits your itinerary.We can also do airport pick-up and drop-offs.
We’re locals and we’ll share plenty of local knowledge and recommendations throughout the day. We’re not “certified tour guides”, but our private tours are designed to be relaxed, personal and informative. If you’d like a dedicated guided experience, we can also recommend specialist local guides.
No — tickets for other experiences are typically purchased separately. We’re happy to include experiences like Scenic World, Bygone Beautys, glow worms, history talks, indigenous experiences in your private tour itinerary and help you plan timing. Your driver can wait for you, and you’ll have their contact details for an easy, stress-free day.
Absolutely — that’s what we’re best at. We’ll tailor your private tour to your interests (lookouts, villages, historic sites, short easy walks, food/wine) and to real-world timing on the day. We can also suggest quieter local favourites that big tour buses don’t visit.
Yes. We can design your private tour around short, relatively level walks and scenic lookouts, with as much (or as little) walking as you prefer. Just tell us your comfort level and any mobility considerations.
You can absolutely do the Blue Mountains by train + private tour. It’s a great option for international visitors who don’t want to drive on the left, deal with parking, or navigate unfamiliar roads — you get a relaxed day with local knowledge and door-to-door transport between stops.
Most guests choose 4–8 hours for a relaxed day that includes a mix of lookouts, villages and a short walk (if you’d like one). If you tell us your must-sees and your time in the Mountains, we’ll recommend the best length so you’re not rushed.
We can adapt the plan to suit the conditions. If it’s rainy, windy or foggy, we can switch to more sheltered lookouts, waterfalls, villages, cosy food stops, galleries, and other options that still make for a great day. If conditions are unsafe, we’ll discuss the best alternative.
We can offer free bag storage at Blue Mountains Bag Storage (Katoomba) if it is open (typically open Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday). It’s ideal if you’re arriving by train, or if you have time to fill before check-in or after check-out.If we can arrange it, at a small fee, we also transfer bags to/from your accomodation.
